Photo Cycle Privacy Policy
Effective November 2, 2026
In short: Photo Cycle does not collect, keep, share or sell any information about you. It has no ads, no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. Your photos never leave your phone.
What Photo Cycle does
Photo Cycle is a live wallpaper for Android. It shows your own photos as your phone's wallpaper, one at a time, and shows every photo once before any photo repeats.
Your photos
- You choose which folders Photo Cycle may look at, using Android's own folder picker. Photo Cycle can read only the folders you pick, and only to show their photos on your screen.
- You can also add single photos: share them to Photo Cycle from another app, or tap "Add photos" and choose them in Android's own photo picker. Photo Cycle receives only the photos you share or choose, and keeps a copy of each in its private storage on your phone so it can show it. "Remove added photos" deletes those copies; the originals in your other apps are not touched.
- Photos are read on your phone. They are never uploaded, copied to anyone else or sent anywhere.
- To know what to show next, Photo Cycle keeps a small list on your phone of where your photos are and which ones it has already shown. This list stays in the app's private storage on your phone.
- For captions and "On this day", Photo Cycle reads the date stored inside each photo (or the file's date) and, if the photo has one, its GPS position, once per photo, on your phone. It keeps only the date and a rough position (rounded to about 7 miles / 11 km) in its private storage. A position is shown only if you choose the "Date and place" caption, and only as rough numbers: Photo Cycle has no map and never sends a position anywhere to look it up.
- You can remove a folder at any time. Photo Cycle then stops showing its photos and gives up its access to that folder. Nothing is ever deleted from your folders.
The optional shared album link
If you choose to paste the link to a shared photo list (a "shared album", for example one a family member keeps on a website or home photo server), Photo Cycle connects directly to that address to download the list and its photos into the app's private storage on your phone. That address is one you provide; we do not run it and we receive nothing from it. As with any web request, the server at that address sees ordinary connection details such as your internet address, and Photo Cycle names itself ("PhotoCycle" and its version number). Photo Cycle sends nothing else: no photos, settings or account details. It only accepts secure (https) addresses, keeps only photos (up to 40 MB each) and, with "Download only on Wi-Fi" on (the default), downloads only while your phone is on Wi-Fi. Photos taken off the list are deleted from your phone the next time Photo Cycle checks it. If you never enter an address, Photo Cycle never uses the internet. Google Photos and iCloud album links are not accepted and are never opened. How shared album links work.
Schedules
If you set up a schedule (for example, one folder in the mornings and the shared album in the evenings), its rules are kept only in the app's private storage on your phone and follow your phone's clock. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Lock screen
If you turn on "Also show photos on the lock screen", Photo Cycle sets the current photo as your lock screen picture, on your phone. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Permissions
- Internet: used only for the optional shared album link described above.
- Network state: used only to tell whether your phone is on Wi-Fi or mobile data, for "Download only on Wi-Fi".
- Set wallpaper: used only for the optional lock screen picture described above.
Photo Cycle does not ask for access to your storage, photo library, camera, microphone, location, contacts or any account.
Data we collect
None. Photo Cycle contains no advertising, analytics, crash reporting or tracking code, and there is no Photo Cycle server. We cannot see your photos, your settings or how you use the app.
Deleting your data
Everything Photo Cycle keeps (your settings and schedule, its list of photos, the photos you added and any photos downloaded from a shared album link) is stored only in the app's private storage on your phone. Uninstalling Photo Cycle, or clearing its storage in your phone's settings, deletes all of it. Photo Cycle is excluded from Android backups and phone-to-phone transfers, so none of it is copied to the cloud.
Children
Photo Cycle is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children.
